Sacramental Preparation

Sacramental preparation takes place outside of the Discerning Disciples curriculum and is provided as additional faith formation for pupils preparing to receive the Sacraments. This ensures that the full entitlement and curriculum time for Religious Education is protected and that sacramental preparation does not replace curriculum RE.

Pupils preparing for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in Year 3 and Confirmation in Year 6 are supported through dedicated sacramental preparation resources and sessions. These provide opportunities to explore the meaning of the Sacraments, reflect on Scripture, develop their prayer life and understand how receiving a Sacrament calls them to grow in faith and discipleship.

Although delivered separately, appropriate connections are made with knowledge pupils encounter through Discerning Disciples, allowing them to draw upon their wider understanding of Catholic belief and teaching. Preparation is further supported through the partnership between school, parish and families, helping children understand that sacramental preparation forms part of their wider faith journey and participation in the life of the Church.
