Autumn Curriculum
'Hear the Call - Take Action!'
Year 6's vehicle for the autumn term is 'Hear the Call - Take Action'. The vehicle takes its inspiration from one of the key events in Year 6 - Confirmation. Through this sacrament, the pupils' renew their baptismal promises and say 'Yes' to God themselves. The Holy Spirit then bestows the gifts and fruits upon them to help them hear the voice of God and act in his name.
The children are going to be learning how their actions can impact positively on the lives of others and hear from key speakers from the school community, parish community and the local community. The children will then plan and take part in activities to make a positive impact. They are then going to hear from national and international groups to see how they can hear the call of the national and global community and use their experience from planning local actions to make a difference further a field.
Challenge 1 – How can we support and influence positively the school community?
Leading by Example
House Captains -The children prepared speeches to share with their houses. Those children in years 2-6 then met with the Year 6 pupil who spoke of the qualities, skills and talents they could bring to the role. Each member of the house then got an opportunity to vote for who they thought would be a good house captain.
Play Leaders - The children undertook play leader training so that they can engage and guide pupils in other year groups in fun and safe lunchtime activities.

Special Friends
Year 6 enjoyed meeting their Special Friends and will be writing letters to introduce themselves to their special friends family!
Challenge 2 - Supporting Our Local Community
Year 6 and their Reception and Nursery Special Friends spent the afternoon designing posters to raise awareness of the dangers of dropping litter for local wildlife. They used their knowledge of CST and Stewardship of God's Creation to undertake a litter pick on the school grounds. Year 6 then undertook a litter pick at the local park. The children's posters have been delivered to local shops to raise the profile of caring for God's world.
Alton Castle - Confirmation Retreat
Year 6 enjoyed an excellent retreat experience at Alton Castle. They had time to reflect on the Confirmation journey they will be on this year and how the Fruits and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit will help them to live a life of service. The team building activities helped us to remember that we are stronger together.
Is yeast alive?
Year 6 have been investigating microorganisms and today they were able to prove that yeast is alive!!
