Our Learning in Action
Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful visit to St Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham, where they had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their Catholic faith and explore the rich history of this beautiful place of worship. The children were fascinated by the cathedral’s stunning architecture, beautiful stained-glass windows and important religious features. Throughout the visit, they reflected on the significance of the cathedral as the mother church of the Archdiocese of Birmingham and its role in the Catholic community. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to make meaningful connections with their learning in Religious Education and appreciate the importance of prayer, worship and belonging to the wider Catholic family. Year 6 represented St Anne’s beautifully, showing great respect and reverence throughout their visit.
On Tuesday 6th October, Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Blessed William Howard Catholic High School as part of their transition to secondary school. The children had the opportunity to experience a taste of high school life, taking part in two exciting and creative lessons. In Design and Technology, they demonstrated their artistic skills by creating beautiful poppies, while in Computing, they explored their creativity and digital skills by producing their own pixel art designs. The children thoroughly enjoyed trying new activities, exploring a different learning environment and beginning to familiarise themselves with their future secondary school. It was a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and excitement as they prepare for the next chapter of their educational journey.
We celebrated a very special moment in school as our Year 6 and Reception children came together for their Special Friends Assembly. Our Year 6 pupils have been paired with a Reception child and will be there to support, encourage and care for them throughout their first year at St Anne’s.
This special friendship is an important part of our Catholic life and mission, giving our oldest pupils the opportunity to put their faith into action by following Jesus’ example of love, kindness, service and compassion. For our Reception children, it means having a familiar older friend to look out for them, help them feel that they belong and share in special moments throughout the year.
It was wonderful to see the beginning of these friendships and to recognise how our pupils live out our mission: “With Jesus in our hearts we learn and grow… Let Trust, Respect and Love live here.”
We look forward to watching these special friendships grow throughout the year!
Year 6 have produced some thoughtful work in RE this week as part of our new Discerning Disciples curriculum.
They explored how Original Sin can influence human choices and showed a strong understanding of how our actions can affect our relationship with God, other people and Creation.
Through discussion and reflection, the children considered how choosing love, kindness and care can help us to follow God’s call and make a positive difference in our world.
