Our learning this term

What an inspiring session we had today! Our Year 5 artists explored the unique world of L. S. Lowry, famous for his matchstick figures and industrial cityscapes. Together, we learned how to build simple shapes, layer soft watercolours, and capture everyday life just like Lowry did.

The children showed incredible creativity—experimenting with muted tones, factory skylines, and those iconic tiny figures bustling across the page. Their artwork was thoughtful, expressive, and full of personality. πŸ’›

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our “Learn With Me” session. It was wonderful to see families painting alongside their children and discovering new techniques together.

Here are some snaps of our budding Lowrys at work πŸ‘‡

Remembrance Day- Year 5 and 6 visited the Baswich War Memorial today and led a beautiful prayer service for the school and wider community. Thank you to all who joined us in prayer today.

Year 5 mathematicians had a β€˜cube-tastic’ time exploring cube numbers! πŸ§ŠπŸ’‘ Building, counting, and discovering the magic of maths in 3D!

Year 5 have been creative in science when investigating air resistance. They have worked in groups to create 3 different parachutes and then tested which one is the most air resistant ✈️πŸ§ͺπŸ§ͺ

Year 5 enjoyed a wonderful day at Oscott College, taking part in activities inspired by Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ message about caring for our common home. πŸŒŽπŸ’š Through prayer, reflection, and hands-on learning, the children explored how we can all play our part in protecting God’s creation β€” from recycling and reducing waste to appreciating the beauty of nature around us. πŸŒΌπŸ•ŠοΈ A huge thank you to everyone at Oscott College for making the day so inspiring and welcoming! Our pupils came back full of enthusiasm and ideas about how to live out Laudato Si’ in their everyday lives. πŸ™βœ¨

Teamwork across the school! This week, Year 5 and Reception joined forces to complete their RE display all about hope. Together, the older children supported our youngest pupils with creativity and care, helping them share their own wonderful ideas. ✨ Their displays are now full of thoughtful reflections, bright artwork, and powerful messages about what hope means to us as a school community. πŸŒˆπŸ™ It was lovely to see the children learning from each other and celebrating the theme of hope side by side. Well done, Reception and Year 5!

On Tuesday, Year 5 were busy budding scientists! As part of their learning about friction, the children carried out an exciting experiment using jelly cubes. One cube was covered in oil while the other was left as it was – and they quickly discovered just how much slipperier the oiled jelly was! This fun hands-on activity helped them see how friction works in real life and why surfaces can feel so different. Lots of great scientific thinking, predicting, and testing from our Year 5s – well done!

Year 5 have completed their fantastic double page spreads in Art based on their artist of the term, LS Lowry
