English

At St Anne’s Catholic Primary School we want every child to be happy and enthusiastic learners of English, and to be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their God-given talents. We firmly believe that the recipe for success is high quality first-wave teaching in English, which is central to the life of our happy, caring school.
English incorporates a variety of different areas of learning throughout our school, including reading, writing, grammar, phonics and spelling. Each area of learning is important in its own way and by using the knowledge and skills developed in these areas together, the children at St Anne's can achieve in all other other curriculum subjects.

Year 1 -
Year 2 - Henry P - "I like English because it is fun."
Minnie - "We do English a few times a week, we are writing a diary entry about the Great Fire of London."
Year 3 - Harper - " I like English because we do a lot of writing, I love writing cursive in my publishing book."
Isaiah - "English is calm, especially when we are publishing because Miss Owen puts calm music on."
Year 4 - Edith - "I love English especially when we write stories because I prefer to write about my own ideas. Writing a non-chronological report was fun because we knew the facts, but we wrote them down in our own words."
Brodhi - "I like English because we don't just learn about writing, we learn about things like adverbials, verbs, adjectives, punctuation and grammar. I think English is exciting and challenging because sometimes you have the ideas, but need to think about how to write them down."
Year 5 - Norah - "We are writing a non-chronological report in English at the moment. I like writing in English lessons."
Nabiha - "We start every English lesson with handwriting practice, so that we can get better at it."
