Here is 'What the children say...' about Art and Design:

 

Y6

Sophia - "I love art! It makes me calm and it's a good time to practise my drawing. The best work I do is in my art book! We have been learning about Augustin Rodin. He likes making sculptures and sculpts hands out of metal. I enjoyed learning about the artists 'Lowry' and 'Giacometti' last year. "

 

Esme - "Art makes me feel relaxed. I love art! We have been learning about Rodin. He is a sculptor who sculpts hands. We have been learning skills such as line drawing, hatching, shading and proportion. I enjoy applying the skills to my sketchbook- it's my favourite book."

 

Y5

Leighton - "Art makes me feel creative and I always feel proud of my artwork. We have been learning about L.S. Lowry. He only used 5 colours to paint (red, blue, yellow, white and black). We have been focusing on shading and annotations in our sketchbooks. I can also remember learning about Stephen Wiltshire, Claude Monet and Georgia O'Keefe."

 

Mia - "I like art because it makes me happy and relaxed. We have been learning about L.S. Lowry, a famous artist who lived in Manchester. He focused on painting busy locations with lots of pollution. We have been focusing on drawing, shading and body forms. I can remember learning about other artists such as Stephen Wiltshire, Monet and Georgia O'Keefe last year."

 

Y4

Sofia - "Art makes me happy because there is no right or wrong. I would do art every day if I could! We have been learning about Claude Monet- an impressionist artist who uses broken brushstrokes in his paintings. We have been focusing on observational drawings and shading in our art lessons. I can remember learning about Andy Goldsworthy and Pablo Picasso last year."

 

Nicole - "I like art and I feel proud of my artwork because it is realistic. I think that I am a good artist. We have been learning about Claude Monet who uses small dots (pointillism) in his artwork. He was an impressionist artist. I can remember learning about Andy Warhol last year."

 

Y3

Lennon - "My art lessons make me feel like I'm an artist! I always feel proud of my artwork. We have been learning about Antony Gormley. He is a British sculptor who makes body form sculptures. We have been focusing on shading, proportion and texture using different media. I can remember learning about Vincent Van Gogh and Andy Goldsworthy last year."

 

Maria - "Art is my favourite! It makes me feel happy. I feel proud of my artwork 100%. We have been learning about Antony Gormley. He was a sculptor, born in 1950 and some of his sculptures include 'Angel of the North', 'Iron Baby' and 'Exposure'. I can also remember learning about Van Gogh last year."

 

Y2

Kaiden - "Art makes me feel great. I always feel proud of my artwork. We have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh who liked painting flowers. We have been practising our drawing and painting skills in our art lessons. I can also remember learning about Henri Matisse last year."

 

Matilda - "Art lessons make me feel excited and I am proud of my artwork. We have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh who created flower paintings and self-portraits. We have been cutting, drawing, blending and shading in our art lessons. I also know about the artist 'Barbara Hepworth'."

 

Y1

Felix - "I like art- my art lessons make me feel like an artist. We have been learning about Henri Matisse. He enjoyed 'painting with scissors' and we have been doing the same. We have looked at lines and curves too."

 

Edith - "Art makes me feel clever. We have been learning about Henri Matisse. He made patterns with paper and coloured cardboard. We have learnt how to cut, draw and 'paint with scissors'."

 

EYFS

Sam - "Art makes me feel happy. I like painting and drawing. I feel proud of my artwork."

 

Isabelle - "I like art. It makes me excited. We use paints for handprints, paintbrushes, play-doh and chalk. I feel proud of my artwork."
