Wednesday 20th May
For this week's guided reading I've put the next chapter (4) of "Ned and the Detectives" on PurpleMash for you to read with your parents! Make sure you take your time when reading it, it's a marathon not a race! As usual, when you have read the chapter I would like you to complete a short quiz about the text, as well as a couple of other activities to check how well you remember the chapter. I have set them as 2Dos for you
In addition, if you haven't had a chance to have a look at the Oxford Owl books I recommended last week, today would be a great time to have a look! We'll be using these for whole class reading when we're back at school and so this is a nice opportunity to get familiar with the website.
I’m also linking you to a great series of YouTube videos where lots of different celebrities are reading a chapter of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach every day! I think it looks like lots of fun!
Maths - Money - Counting Coins 1
Today we are going to use our learning from the last two days to begin to combine coins to create different values (e.g. 5p + 1p + 1p = 7p)
It would be a great idea to begin by getting your child to do the following maths problems:
- 5 + 3 = ?
- 8 + 2 = ?
- 7 + 5 = ?
Then, rewrite the same problems but in monetary terms:
- 5p + 3p =
- 8p + 2p =
- 7p + 5p =
Encourage them to say what they notice! This will make the idea of adding coins a less scary concept!
Then I would like them to have a go at playing the following online games:
- https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/students/students-5-8/coin-cruncher/ (Make an amount)
- the 2Do I have set on PurpleMash
Music - Exploring Beat
Before we left school, Mrs Hampton was teaching you to create a beat using different instruments, as well as your hands! For today’s music lesson I’d like you to remind yourself of what beat is, before using different beats to create a piece of music! I have added a 2Do on PurpleMash where you can explore changing the beat of 4 different instruments (2 different drums, some cymbals and clapping hands) to create a piece of music! What happens when you change the beat of the different instruments? What about if you change how loud different instruments are? What if you make the beat faster/slower?
Good luck being little DJs!
Every morning Joe Wicks is hosting a live PE lesson on his YouTube channel at 9am. Don't worry if you can't wake up that early, they are on YouTube all day!
If you fancy something a bit different to get yourself moving, Oti Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing is streaming live dance lessons to her YouTube every morning - if that's your thing (Ashton I'm looking at you!)
