Reading
In Year 2 pupils' books are changed on a Thursday. Each week your child will bring home a Read, Write Inc phonics book and a scheme book. Pupils also have the opportunity to choose and bring home a library book from the class library within the classroom. Library books should be returned to school on a Monday if possible, this is to allow time for the books to be quarantined before being returned to the class library ready for Thursday. Their reading books should be returned on a Thursday when they will be changed.
Please make sure that your child has their reading diary and books in school every Thursday ready to change.
There are a wide range of books in our class library, from picture books with relatively few words per page to longer chapter books. The children will be able to read some library books themselves but may sometimes need an adult to share and read their book with them. Reading to your child at this age is extremely valuable. Listening to an adult reading aloud teaches children how to read with expression and intonation. Additionally, reading a more challenging book also provides an excellent opportunity to check your child's understanding of texts and to introduce them to new vocabulary.
Children are never too old for a bedtime story.
