We will be learning phonics through Read Write Inc.

There will be information about this scheme sent out to you very soon.

Initially, reception will learn to recognise and write sounds:

m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f, e, l, h, sh, ck, r, j, v, y, w, th, z, ch, qu, x, ng/nk.

We aim to teach a new sound everyday.

The children will also begin to blend sounds to read and segment  sounds to write.​​​​​​​

As we practise how to form the letters correctly in class, you will receive a practise letter formation sheet for each sound learnt to use at home. Encourage your child to say the sound as they form (write) the letter.

Tricky Words

Not all words can be blended using phonic skills. In Read Write Inc. these words are referred to as 'Red Words' or 'Tricky Words'. These words just have to be learnt by recognising what they look like. Your child will soon be receiving some 'Tricky' word cards to use at home to practise. Use the word cards to support your child with their reading. Try to practise writing these words too! A little  practise everyday will have huge benefits and will support your child with their learning.
