Create a story map with the children.
Draw simple pictures to represent the different parts of the story. Then ask your child to retell the story in their own words using the map as a guide.
Maths Patterns
Take a look at this power point about patterns:
You can use the Internet or books to look at patterns on animals. Look at tigers, zebras, snakes, giraffes and cheetahs.
What other animals can you find with patterns?
Can you draw any of the patterns?
Also...
We can also make patterns that repeat e.g.
Make your own pattern...
Collect 5 pebbles and 5 leaves from outside. Make a pattern that goes, ‘pebble, leaf, pebble, leaf’. You could paint the pebbles different colours and make patterns with the colours.
Understanding the World
Expressive Art & Design
Look at the life cycle of the butterfly power point...
Explain that the patterns on the butterfly’s wings match on both sides. This is symmetrical.
Fold sheets of paper in half and encourage children to add paint to one side and then re-fold.
Cut the dried painting into a butterfly shape to create a pretty symmetrical picture.
