Monday 29th June
Good morning Year 3, I hope you all had a great weekend!
Read the PowerPoint to discover this week’s spelling words, they all contain silent letters. I would like you to practise using prepositions by writing each of your spelling words in a sentence including a preposition. Remember, a preposition describes the position of something in relation to something else. If you need a quick recap on prepositions then watch the video and try the interactive activities using the BBC link below. For example; The pirate buried his treasure on the island. Please underline your spelling words and highlight your prepositions.
This week we will be learning about capacity. Capacity is the amount something can contain, watch the videos below to learn more about capacity. Capacity is measured in milliliters (ml) and liters (l), 1000ml = 1l. Afterwards, I would like you to do a practical activity. First, gather a few different containers from around your home that can hold water, don't use anything expensive! E.g. a mug, empty can, bottle etc. Next, estimate how many ml or l it will take to fill each container. Then use a measuring jug fill them with water to find the actual amount of ml or l each container can hold. You can record your results on the worksheet provided. If the weather is nice perhaps you could do this activity outside. Don't forget to tidy up when you're finished.
Check out a Joe Wicks Live PE lesson or a dance routine from Oti Mabuse on YouTube.
Geography - Choose a famous volcano from anywhere around the world, e.g. Mount St. Helens or Mount Vesuvius. Use the internet to research it (or any books you may have). Where is it? Is it active? How tall is it? Is it a tourist attraction? What is interesting about it? When did it last erupt? Create an information poster all about it. Include a title, photograph or drawing and lots of facts.
