We are going to be planning and writing a newspaper report about a storm over the next few lessons. To get ourselves started I would like you to look in newspapers for headlines. Collect some of your favourites and think about why you like them. What makes them a good headline? Is it the words they choose? Is it the length of the headline? Has the author been clever with their words? Why has this headline made you want to read more about the story? You may want to read the article to help you decide this.
Once you have made a collection of between 3 and 5 headlines and made a comment about why you like that headline, then think about the images on the sheet below. If you were a journalist, what headlines would you use for each of these images. Think about what you like in a headline!
