Autumn Curriculum Vehicle
WEEK 1
Mr Gatensbury, Economic Development Manager for Stafford Borough Council, talked to us about how to create a successful business in Stafford.

WEEK 2
We have designed our own questionnaires to gather information about what would make people buy our products.
WEEK 3
We have compared and grouped together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency and response to magnets. We will be working with different materials when we create our products.

WEEK 4
We mixed solids with water and observed what happened. We will need to do this when we make our products.

We analysed our results from our online survey. We were surprised that people liked candles the most. We will use the data to help us decide on how much of each product to make and which colours/fragrances to use. You can see the published results on:

WEEK 5
We have created logos for our soap products.

WEEK 6
We had a go at making soap in small batches. The process of soap making is called ‘saponification’. We melted the soap base using heat and then we poured the liquid into moulds. We needed to wait a few hours for the soap to harden.

WEEK 7
Justine Di Cesare from Tranquility visited. Justine is an aromatherapist and she talked to the children about essential oils - how they are made and what they are used for. Y5 particuarly enjoyed the scent test. Miss Bryan did too as the classroom smelled wonderful afterwards! Y5 will now choose which essential oils they would like to use in their soaps and bath bombs for their classroom vehicle.

WEEK 8
We have been making bath bombs in science. We mixed bicarbonate of soda with citric acid. When they are then put in water, they undergo a chemical reaction. The reaction produces lots of bubbles, which you see as the bath bomb dissolves in the water. These bubbles that make the water become so fizzy are made of carbon dioxide gas. This is an irreversible change. We will be making bath bombs for the PTFA fair.

WEEK 9
Y5 are getting ready for business!
We now have group names for our budding entrepreneurs:
Soap Surprise
Bright Bubbles
Seasonal Spa
Brilliant Bubbles
Santa Scents
Today they have been desgining logos and creating posters to advertise their amazing handmade products. Keep your eye out for them over the next few weeks!
WEEK TEN - BLISTS HILL
Week Eleven

Week Thirteen
The children have settled well this week with their new teacher, Mrs Thorley. We have been focusing mainly on English and the children have created fantastic setting descriptions which have been linked to their curriculum vehicle.
